Take the plunge

 

If you are a certified diver, all you have to do is just get to the Maldives with proof of certification and discover this miracle of nature. All the resort islands have a diving school and it is only a short barefoot walk from your bungalow. The dive schools are well equipped to meet the diver’s and have their own boats to venture to different dive sites. You can bring your own equipment or rent it from the school. You could also take a diving cruise to explore this extraordinary archipelago. A live-abroad is more adventurous and presents more opportunities to discover new dive sites that may be inaccessible from the resorts. Should you wish to become a certified diver while you are on holiday, the Maldives with its shallow lagoons present ideal conditions for beginners.

 

Courses offered

 

All diving schools offer courses for the novice as well as for the more experienced diver, and they all have qualified instructors attending to your needs providing courses ranging from Open Water to Diving Instructor level.

 

Temperature and visibility

 

The conditions for diving ideal in the Maldives where the annual average water temperature is 28 degrees Celsius. Although it is possible to dive with swimmer, you may require a 3-millimeter neoprene wetsuit as a thermal protection. With visibility reaching up to 30 meters, you can admire the immense underwater landscapes without restrictions in almost every dive.

 

Diving possibilities       

 

Maldives being one of the most coral rich regions in the world, here you are spoilt for choice when it comes to diving. With over a thousand different species of coral and fish, every dive is a fascinating experience. While boat diving is more popular, shore diving to discover natures little wonders subtly hidden in the house reef of the island are a favorite past time for many. Diving possibilities include drift diving, wreck diving and night diving.

 

 

 

Safety and Insurance

 

Recreational diving in the Maldives has a depth limit of 30meters. You do not need to go deeper as you can enjoy all the riches of a coral reef within 30meters. All dive operators in the Maldives strictly adhere to international diving standards.

 

Although, there are well equipped clinics and decompression chambers in the Maldives, prevention is always the best medicine. Always take the safety regulations seriously and dive with responsibility to yourself, your buddy and to the environment. If you are not sure that your present insurance covers you for diving related accidents, please check whether it does.
